GT & Clemson Weekend - Feb 24, 2010

A tough weekend on the road for the team.  Playing 2 games in 2 days against top tier SELC talent took its toll.  A slow start combined with a talented Georgia Tech team who was able to capitalize on Bama's mistakes, led to a 9-3 halftime deficit that was insurmountable.  GT was able to possess away the rest of the game and coast to a 13-6 victory.  After the game, the team traveled up to Clemson to spend the night before playing the Tigers on Sunday.

Big Overtime Win vs. Baylor - Feb 15, 2010

Alabama showed heart, grit, and determinination that has not been seen for a long time at the Capstone in an OT win verses Baylor.  The game was hosted by Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, TN.  This was a homecoming for two Alabama players, Jason Hebert and Preston Weaver, and both had large hometime fan bases in the stands.

Alabama drew first blood but it proved to be the only lead in the game until the final whistle.  A tight defensive ball game, Alabama defenders Camillus Avent, Matt Kenyon, and Conor Conway played steller games(especially in the second half) limiting Baylor shots all night.  Baylor's defense played equally as well, forcing Alabama into poor passing lanes for much of the game.  Freshman Goalie Jake Springer elevated his game in the second half, allowing only one goal while defending 8 shots, including one in OT.

Alabama finished the first half down 4-5.  Alabama tied the ballgame in the 3rd quarter, but Baylor answered back midway through the 4th.  Down 6-5, Alabama dug deep and Sophomore Max Koehler made it a tie ballgame on a quickstick from the crease.  Unable to convert on the final shot of the game, Taylor Ensign continued his excellence at the faceoff X (12 for 18) and won the OT faceoff.  A few possesions later, Baylor committed two fouls to go two man down.  It took Alabama only 10 seconds after that when Austin Seiz put one in off a rebounded shot, prompting Bama's bench to rush the field.

A true team win, everyone in a Bama jersey played 100% the entire game and it paid off.  This win will be valuable down the road when Bama finds itself in tight ball games later this year.
